attraction on the path towards the Tibidabo amusement park, on top of the mountain.

How can a sustainable, innovative design promote the socio cultural context of the trajectory as well as enter into a dialogue with the natural environment it is trespassing?

The rich history of the funicular and its trajectory through the

Collserola Natural Park were to be met with a respectful design proposal

and highly sophisticated sustainable technology in order to decrease the impact of the funicular on its environment.

-How can the new goals be supported by sophisticated design and engineering proposals?

Flexible thought and production processes lead to the ongoing investigation of systems that would live up to the objectives o

f the participating stakeholders. Aesthetics, functionality, innovative technology and engineering, new materials as well as the en ter tainment

parameter constantly lead to rethinking and redrawing the sketched vision.

-What engineering and construction solutions are necessary for a transparent m achine building to be realized?

Aluminum needs to be stabilized by a specified support system that was specifically designed for the new trains. A new struct ure had to be developed, that would also hold the newly panoramic spherical front and back windows. Regarding all the machines, addition al new compositions, that were yet to be investigated, allowed to camouflage them.

-What design characteristics nurture the train’s role as prolongation of an amusement park?

An entertainment

programme subtle yet lively, educative and didactic, informative regarding the history and the functioning of the

train had to be strategically placed within the time span of the ride. Furthermore a specific entertainment program was designed for this specific ride.
