特里恩别墅（Ternion）由坐落于科威特的三栋独立别墅组成。多样堆叠的棱柱体块创造出多孔状像素化的外观，从而在隐私和社区的两种完美理想的状态之间实现了和谐的平衡。

Ternionis a composition of three independent villas in Kuwait. Variably stacked prismaticvolumes create a porous-pixelated massing achieving a harmonious balance betweenthe opposing ideals of privacy and community.

该项目鼓励建筑师重新考虑现代的阿拉伯郊区住宅区的表达方式——那里通常坐落着属于富裕人家的独立别墅。 在一个私隐和天气成为首要设计指令的社会环境中，住宅建筑的规范因而变成创造难渗透且内向性的结构，从而最大程度地利用受气候控制的建筑面积。

The projectencouraged the architects to rethink the modern suburban Arab residential block,usually populated with affluent independent villas. In a society where privacy andweather become the overriding design directives, the norm in residential architectureis to create impenetrable and introverted structures thatmaximize the climate-controlled built-up area.

项目愿景是要求建立三座带有私人花园以及私人游泳池的独立别墅，同时能够满足住户全年使用的需求——事实上这一点尤其具有挑战性，因为科威特一直以其干旱的沙漠气候而闻名于世，作为世界上最热的沙漠之一，沙尘暴时常发生。

The briefdictated the creation of three independent villas with private gardens and privateswimming pools, that can be utilized on a year-round basis. This was particularlychallenging since Kuwait is known for its arid desert climate which is one of thehottest in the world and dust storms are a regular occurrence.

尽管无法完全避免气候带来的不利影响，但建筑师们试图通过使用当地传统的被动冷却技术，来尽量减少主动气候控制的使用。通过将这些与自遮阳的体量设计策略结合，无论是于空间，亦或是于美学上，都为该项目提供了方向。

Whileit could not be completely avoided, the architects sought to minimize the use ofactive climate control by employing passive cooling techniques traditionally partof the vernacular. Combining these with self-shading massingstrategies gave the project the direction it needed both spatially andaesthetically.

每栋别墅均以一个带游泳池的私人庭院作为空间的中心——而这亦是对带有水景的传统“豪宅”的现代化诠释；社交空间分布聚集在泳池周边，同时因为设有纵向顶高玻璃窗，以便在将窗户打开时，进行交叉通风和蒸发冷却。

Eachvilla is cantered on a private courtyard featuring a swimming pool as a modernfunctional interpretation of a traditional 'Hosh' with a water feature. The socialspaces are grouped around this pool and feature longitudinal full-height glazedwindows facilitating cross ventilation and evaporative cooling when open.

玻璃内墙提供了花园和游泳池的全景，同时通过悬臂体量遮阳，减少了热量的增加；由此导致形成了迥然相异同时彼此堆叠的棱柱体组合，创造了像素化或多孔状的立体呈现，并尽力在隐私和社区的对立理想之间达到某一种和谐的平衡。

The glazed internal walls afford panoramic views tothe garden and pools while shaded from the scorching sun by cantilevered volumesmitigating the heat gain. This results in a composition of variably stacked prismatic volumescreating a pixelated/porous massing that endeavours to achieve a harmonious balancebetween the opposing ideals of privacy and community.

这三栋别墅的建筑应被视作一个整体进行审视游览——一个由一系列分层状社交空间组成，每一处社交空间皆是根据其不同程度的开放性和私密性进行安排组织的整体。它们的范围从完全封闭的私人的花园，到无声花园，再到广阔露台，可供住户充分欣赏到开放的或近或远的街景风光。

The architectureof the three villas is to be read as a whole, composed of a series of hierarchicalsocial spaces, organized based on their varying degrees of openness and privacy.These range from fully enclosed, private, and silent gardens to vast terraces, openingup to the streetscape and the vistas beyond.

可居住的空间围绕这些社交空间进行组织和整理，由其功能和对透明度的需求，进行了定义。

The inhabitablevolumes are organized around these social spaces, defined by their function andneed for transparency.

特里恩别墅整体的空间体量，借助于它们的组合成分，譬如充当框架、庇护或悬挑，以此提供遮阳，防（沙漠）风，以及框景的功能——为住户提供从多个有利位置朝向大海的，无穷无尽的美景。

Thesemonolithic volumes, by virtue of their compositions, act as frames, shields or cantilevers,providing shade from the sun, protection from the desert wind, and frames the endlessviews towards the sea from multiple vantage points.

高使用度的露台，附有遮蔽的门廊，被隐藏起的角落，以及俯瞰全景的观景台，都是通过对于这处立体集结进行合理调和之后所创造出来的，具有多样用途空间的一部分。三栋别墅各具表现力，且相互延伸，形成了流线型的街道交接界面，从而为此处之后的一系列开发项目，树立了一种统一而和谐的经典形象。

Usableterraces, covered porticos, hidden nooks, viewing platforms are all part of a selectionof multi-use spaces generated by modulating the massing. The expressive volumesof the three villas reach out to each other creating a streamlined street interface,thereby forging a unified identity for the development.

因此可以说特里恩别墅是一个实验，在现代阿拉伯住宅建筑中，它既表达了对符合社会准则所规定的隐私和排他性的尊重，同时最大程度上保证了社区的趣味性。

Ternion,thus, is an experiment in modern Arabic residential architecture, that respectsthe privacy and exclusivity dictated by the social norms without compromising onthe joys of community.
